Noa Ben-Nun Melamed (b. 1954) was born in Haifa and grew up on Kibbutz Maagan Michael.
She currently lives in Tel Aviv and is the mother of two sons. She is the recipient of the prestigious Enrique Kavlin Lifetime Achievement Award for Photography, Israel Museum Prizes for Art and Design (2019–2020).
A graduate of the Photography Department at the Hadassah College of Technology, she also holds a B.Ed. from Hamidrasha Art College and a Masters of Arts from Lesley University.
Ben-Nun Melamed has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions at galleries and museums in Israel and abroad. Her works are included in several prominent collections, among them the Israel Museum, the Israeli Parliament, the Eretz Israel Museum, and the Mishkan Museum of Art at Ein Harod, as well as in private collections.
She is the creator of the artist books Half a Mega of Memories and Atlantis. She taught photography at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem and at other academic institutions, educating generations of photographers. She has also curated numerous exhibitions.
Ben-Nun Melamed investigates the photographic image, sometimes intervening in it and exploring ways of transforming it into an object by drawing on diverse sources, incorporating motion and examining various means of presentation.
For her, the moment of taking a photograph is not an endpoint but a beginning – a moment of reflection and the construction of inner content. It is an act of transformation from the concrete to the symbolic. At times, her work is clearly autobiographical, exploring the intersection of private and national myths.
At other times, it engages with more primeval universes, where motifs of memory, death and annihilation, transience, and myth emerge. Ben-Nun Melamed’s photographic work reveals the experience of vision as an act of imagination, creating unmapped territories, lacking all time and location.

נועה בן נון מלמד נולדה ב־1954 בחיפה, גדלה בקיבוץ מעגן מיכאל, מתגוררת בתל אביב, אם לשניים. זוכת פרס אנריקה קבלין לצילום על מפעל חיים, פרסי מוזיאון ישראל לאמנות ולעיצוב 2019-2020. בוגרת החוג לצילום במכללת הדסה, המדרשה לאמנות ברמת השרון ובבית ברל, ובעלת תואר שני באמנות מאוניברסיטת לסלי. הציגה תערוכות יחיד רבות והשתתפה בתערוכות קבוצתיות בגלריות ומוזיאונים בארץ ובעולם. עבודותיה מצויות באוספי מוזיאון ישראל, הכנסת, מוזיאון ארץ ישראל, המשכן לאמנות בעין חרוד וכן באוספים פרטיים. הוציאה לאור את ספרי האמן "חצי מגה זיכרונות", ו"אטלנטיס'. לימדה צילום שנים רבות במכללה האקדמית הדסה בירושלים ובמקומות נוספים, חינכה דורות של צלמים, ואצרה תערוכות רבות.
בן נון מלמד חוקרת את הדימוי הצילומי ומתערבת בו. לעיתים בודקת את האפשריות להפיכתו לאובייקט, עושה שימוש במקורות מגוונים, מכניסה בו תנועה ובוחנת צורות תצוגה שונות. בשבילה רגע הצילום הוא רגע של התחלה, לא של סיום; רגע שיש בו השתקפות והבנייה של תכנים פנימיים - פעולת התמרה מהקונקרטי לסימבולי. לעתים התכנים נושאים אופי ביוגרפי ברור ובוחנים את המפגש בין מיתוסים פרטיים ללאומיים ולעיתים הם מייצגים עולמות יותר קמאיים, שניתן לזהות בהם מוטיבים שעוסקים בזיכרון, מוות וכליה, בארעי ובמיתי. צילומיה ממחישים את חווית הראיה כפעולה של הדמיון, היוצרת טריטוריות לא ממופות, נטולות זמן ומקום קונקרטיים.
